2020 was for many a year to forget. For the Cozumel sailor Demita Vega De Lille, it was a great year. In January, she qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games and became one of the historic women of Mexican sport with three participations in the highest sports event, in October she was designated as the best athlete in Quintana Roo. Now he's getting ready to go to Tokyo and fight for a medal.

Demita Vega De Lille, despite all the ups and downs that occurred, such as inactivity in nine months due to the coronavirus pandemic, knew how to come out ahead and put an end to the long pause, in November in Portugal during the European Championship, a listed event as a blank test at the Olympic level.

Before the health emergency was declared worldwide, Vega De Lille named the Olympic plaza after his ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, after having represented Mexico in Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016, Demita Vega started her preparation in February in Cozumel, and had a full calendar until July where the great sports event would begin; however, the plans changed completely in March with their postponement and the cancellation of all events.

“In the water I only had a two-week break, because fortunately I live on an island, Cozumel, and we can access the sea as long as you are not in contact with anyone and the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) gave us a special permit to those selected Olympics to be able to sail, but from April until now I have been training, fortunately ”, he commented.

“It is an award that I have won twice before, but this one I feel that I have much more affection for it due to the circumstances in which we are living; It has not been easy to be able to develop all the work, do the training sessions, it has been a super difficult year and receiving that award motivates me to tell myself that I am on the right track ”, he said.

However, and although she only had a couple of international competitions last year, the Quintana Roo sailor does not lose concentration and aims to resume activities and practice in mid-January in the United States, and ensures that she is psyched to get to Tokyo with the desire to get their first Olympic medal for Mexico and Quintana Roo.
